7 Ingenious Ways to Find the Lowest Airfares

Date: July 17, 2021

One of the most enjoyable aspects of life is travelling. But how do you pay for it? Not at all. Fortunately, there are many ways to save money when travelling to new places throughout the world, and it all starts with saving money on ticket. Here are seven strategies to soar to new heights without plunging to new lows in your bank account.

1. Always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always,

Most airline websites analyse your browsing history when you buy for flights online to get a sense of where and when you wish to go. They can then use this information to construct something called dynamic pricing. This demand-based pricing mechanism may prevent you from getting the best deal.

2. Purchase tickets on a variety of carriers.

This one takes some time, but if you can find the appropriate circumstance, it'll be well worth it. After you've cleared your browser's cookies, look for the same flight on multiple different airlines. Run the roundtrip trips as one-way flights after you have a good sense of how much they will cost. To identify the optimum approach, keep close note of all of these numbers (spreadsheet, anyone?) Flying one airline to your destination and a another airline back home might often be less expensive. Just make sure you keep track of everything.

3. Sign up for all major airline alerts.

You know how unpleasant it is when your inbox is clogged with emails? You're going to want them all. Because they'll let you know when the best prices are available (spoiler alert). You can even configure alerts for certain locations so you don't miss a beat.

4. Choose the proper day of the week for your flight.

On a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday, in particular. These days are frequently less travelled – and thus less expensive. Make the most of your holiday time by being inventive.

5. Cancel your reservation.

Yes, you read that correctly. Most airlines have a 24-hour refund policy, so check pricing after you've purchased your ticket. Request a refund if they drop significantly. Then, instead of spending that money on the more costly ticket, spend it on the less expensive one. (Also, keep the change for your journey.)

6. Go when no one else is around.

Consider travelling at a less-busy period of year if your travel dates are flexible. Consider shoulder season (June, July, October, and November) and off-season (December, January, and February) (January, February, September). If at all possible, avoid travelling over the holidays, as this is when tickets are most expensive.

7. Register for a chance to win points.

Most airlines have a frequent flyer programme, which can help you save a lot of money in the long term. This is especially useful if you fly with a specific airline frequently, but you can earn points with any airline if you sign up for free rewards programme accounts with each one and make sure you're logged in before booking a journey. You'll earn more points the more you fly. You'll save more money the more points you earn.

Best wishes on your journey!
