Of course, the simple answer is a great deal. However, it turns out that there are a few different ways to define "most costly," so here are the world's most expensive automobiles – plural.

The most expensive car is the Pagani Huayra Tricolore, which costs $6.67 million.

The highest price paid was $48.4 million for a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO.

New hypercars and luxury cars are highly expensive, but visit a vintage car auction to see sky-high prices. A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO sold for approximately $50 million in 2018 at RM Sotheby's. The car was expected to fetch $45 million, so the astronomical price was not unexpected when the hammer fell.

Why is this vintage automobile so valuable? For starters, it bears matching numbers, indicating that the engine and chassis were once part of the Ferrari scuderia. Only 36 were made, and this was the third in the series. It was raced by legendary driver Phil Hill before being sold to its first owner, who won races in it throughout the 1960s without having an accident.
